Educational Portfolio Management
Because there are so many different avenues available to become a Registered Nurse, it is important to maintain records about your educational process. The ability to document the coursework you have taken may prevent you from having to duplicate an educational experience you have already mastered. As you go through school, it is recommended that you assemble a notebook to keep your important records safe and in one place.
Information you will need to keep track of includes:
- Classes you have taken. Save all syllabi to document the content covered in each class.
- Names and addresses of schools you have attended
- Contact information for references at each institution
- Certifications and recognition
- Continuing education activities
- Your current nursing license
- Your current resume
- Official transcripts from each institution you have attended, including high school
- Immunization Records
- Malpractice Insurance Records
A Word About Transcripts: What Makes A Transcript Official? When requesting an official transcript from an institution you have attended (including your high school), there are a few important points to remember:
- Be sure to specify that you need an official transcript and not a student copy.
- The official transcript must be generated from the school you have attended and can be sent either electronically or by mail.
- If the transcript is sent by mail, it must arrive at the college you are applying to in an unopened envelope. If you open the envelope to view the transcript, you have made it unofficial.
