Other Resources for North Carolina Nurses
NC AHEC Program (Area Health Education Centers) North Carolina is divided into nine AHEC regions, with an AHEC center in each region. The mission of the North Carolina AHEC Program is to meet the state's health and health workforce needs by providing educational programs in partnership with academic institutions, healthcare agencies, and other organizations committed to improving the health of the people of North Carolina.
NC AHECs and NC schools of nursing have created three innovative programs of vital importance to nursing workforce development:
- The RN Refresher Program prepares registered nurses to update their clinical knowledge and skills and return to the nursing workforce.
- AHEC Clinical Site Development Programs have provided nursing schools the opportunity to expose their students to extensive training in the crucial areas of rural, long-term care and critical care settings.
- Educational mobility programs for working nurses:
The AHEC nursing faculty, in collaboration with the NC schools of nursing, operate off-campus RN to BSN, MSN and FNP programs which operate in underserved areas of the state.
