| Blue Ridge Community College was established in 1969 as Henderson County Technical Institute. In the Fall of 1970, 1044 students showed up in a rennovated automotive showroom for classes of all types. The college is now located in Flat Rock on 109 acres two and a half miles southeast of Hendersonville, Henderson County North Carolina. A ten-building complex provides 279,288 square feet of floor space, divided into shop and laboratory space, classrooms, library , learning center, office and reception space, and student lounge area. The Transylvania Center in Brevard houses curriculum and continuing education classes.
Situated near the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina at an altitude of 2,140 feet, the College is easily accessible via Interstate 26, Highways 64, 25, 191, and 176. Commercial air service is provided by several major airlines which serve the Asheville Regional Airport located twelve miles north of Hendersonville. This location is also near several summer resort developments which include Flat Rock (Carl Sandburg House), the Pisgah National Forest, Brevard, the Bat Cave-Chimney Rock area, and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

| BRCC offers many specialized diploma (one year) and certificate (eight months) programs alongside their more traditional two year associate degree programs. One of those specialties is one of only three in the country, Automotive Restoration. Taught four nights a week, this certificate/diploma program takes you completely through rebuilding an older model car. Engine over-haul; complete body reworks including fabrication; trim, glass and upholstery; painting; blacksmithing; carpentry, you name it they do it!
Other regional programs include Surgical Technology,Interpreter Education, Travel and Tourism, Associate Degree in Art, and a concentration in Music and Drama. New certificate progams in Nail Technology and Esthetician were added recently. Call 828-694-1818 for more information. |
