Academic Requirements
Colleges will look at your child's grade point average (GPA), class rank, advanced coursework, standardized test scores, and extracurricular activities to determine if they will be accepted.
While good grades are important, it is also very important for your child to challenge themselves academically. Encourage your child to enroll in AP and honors-level classes that are offered at his or her school.
Make certain that your child meets with their school counselor each semester to ensure that they are on track to meet graduation requirements and minimum college requirements. A good guideline is the Minimum Course Requirements (MCR) that students must complete for admission to schools in the UNC system (the 16 public state universities).
Many colleges and universities have additional requirements beyond the MCR. It is very important for your child to check with schools they are interested in to make sure they will meet admission requirements at their school of choice.
